One man said something about "having choices" and I think that is what really matters to me. As long as I have the choice to get the bighousebigcarspicketfence, etc I'll feel like I'm okay. If I have the choice to travel and move and have a family, I'll be happy, even if I don't act on it. But if one of these opportunities was taken away from me, I think that would be one of the worst feelings in the world.

How do you define the American Dream? I see the American Dream as something that is not attainable. No one can be fully happy all the time, or have everything that they want in life. To be happy we need to be the best that we can and not expect anymore of ourselves.
I agree with you that everyday life will bring hardships, and we will always have to overcome these hardships.
DeleteI believe that through hard work, courage, and determination I can achieve anything I want within physical feasibility. It's important to me that I do what makes me happy and find myself by the time I die. I hope to achieve that my name will be forever remembered by at least one group of people or written on a stone facade of a structure for something I've done. I will feel secure and happy when I have tried everything and found a way of living that satisfies me. I will be considered successful when I'm fit and have money and have a solid, steady homelife. I must overcome hardships of pain, giving up time, concentrating, giving up fun, and persuing money. F. What hardships must I overcome in order to succeed? I must overcome the poor economy and the high college prices.
G. How do you define the American Dream? The American Dream is having everything that you could possibly need and more.
I agree with you about how others measure your success based on wealth. For example, musicians are only considered successful if they are making a lot of money. No one considers a musician that is not making as much money successful, even though they could be perfectly happy with their current income. CEOs, owners of corporations, a list actors are considered successful & happy because of their wealth & worth.
DeleteI believe that through hard work, courage, and determination I can be a happy, responsible, reliable person who is trusted.

In my life I would like to achieve being a friend, wife, mother, co-worker and a well rounded human being.

I will be considered successful by others when I outwardly achieve my goals.
I must overcome hardships of temptations of getting off track of my goals for a better short term achievement and focus on the long term achievements.
I think the American Dream is to be happy and healthy and live without any regrets.
Emma, I really like how you said "Live life without any regrets" because I feel like that really applies to everyone.

C. Some accomplishments I hope to achieve are to get a good education, and to eventually have a job that I enjoy and that I feel makes a big difference on a bunch of peoples lives. I mean solving world hunger would be really awesome!
D. I will feel secure and happy when I know that my existence is benefiting others, and benefiting myself at the same time, and that I am taking full advantage to all the opportunities I will be given.
E. I will be considered successful by others when I make a positive contribution to human kind as a whole, and enjoy doing it.
F. I must overcome the hard work and the effort, but the biggest thing is time. We have to overcome time, and time management.
G. How do you define the American Dream? I think the American Dream thrives off of the fact that America has freedom and that we have almost no boundaries on what we can't do. America is really a place where you can make your own life, and either coming from riches or rags there is always room for success.
A. I believe that through hard work, courage, and determination I can achieve whatever I want.
ReplyDeleteB. What's most important to me about who I become is that I never become anyone but myself, and I never become greedy or selfish, no matter what.

E. I will be considered successful by (most) others probably if I make a lot of money.
F. I must overcome failure and rejection musically, and hardships in learning about psychology or whatever field I go into in the future.
G. I personally define the American Dream as living a happy, fulfilled life. Most probably define it as getting rich.
I think that it's really great that you want to pursue a music career, I think that's an inspiring and could really measure how other people see you as successful or not. I agree with your definition of the American Dream as well, but not with the "getting rich" part.
DeleteA. I believe that through hard work, courage, and determination that I can reach goals that I set for myself and create a life that I want to live; not one that is composed for me.
ReplyDeleteB. What is most important to me about who I become in this world is that I am seen for who I am and to see others as who they are also. I don't need to be rich in order for my life to be important or purposeful. It's important that I learn more about others around the world and do not stay closed minded towards others.
C. I hope to achieve a career in which I am happy doing. I want to be able to be happy about the income that I am making, even if it is only a small amount. I want to accomplish traveling to other countries and really seeing what the world as a whole has to offer, using the United States as my platform.
D. I will feel secure and happy when I find my place in life. When I am able to take a second and think that this is where I want to be at this moment in my life.
E. I will be considered successful by others if I feel successful in myself.
F. In order to succeed, I will have to sacrifice people in my life who hold me back, even if they're close to me. I will also have to work hard, but only in a healthy way.
G. I think the American Dream is to pursue your rights to freedom and do what makes you happy and successful in your own terms.
DeleteMy American Dream compares to the videos idea of the American Dream in the sense that happiness is an essential component of the American Dream. Mine was also that same in that we all agreed that you have to take the opportunities that are given to you and work hard to pursuit those goals that you have. My American dream differed from the ones in the video by some people said that there is no longer an American Dream. I think that there will always be an American dream, but it will change based upon the state that the country is in. However, there is always hope and the ability to be successful.
DeleteA.) Through hard work & courage people try to live a successful life that includes monetary stability or greater wealth than they currently have, to prosper & achieve their goals.
ReplyDeleteB.) I want to become successful, honest & respectable.
C.) Many Americans try to accomplish their goals of wealth, family & travel.
D.) Many people feel secure once they have a steady flow of income, own their house, cars, & have a family of their own.
E.) People view others as successful based on their social status, the happiness if the person & how perfect their life seems.
F.) People have to overcome problems such as their life situations , personal problems, lack of motivation, etc.
A. I believe that through hard work, courage, and determination I can accomplish all the goals that I set for myself with school and a career.
ReplyDeleteB. What is most important to me about who I become in this world is a person that is respected and known for doing good things. I want to impact lives in a positive way.
C. The accomplishments I hope to achieve are having a successful job and being well off, so I do not have to worry about being in poverty. Also getting accepted into a good college.
D. I will feel secure and happy when/if I have a house and big family, and enough money to support myself.
E. I will be considered successful by others when/if I have a family and I am happy with my life.
F. The hardships I must overcome in order to succeed are the bad situations I may be put into my life that can alter my goals. I have to overcome the things that may temporarily put me back, but in the long run will teach me a lesson.
G. I define the American Dream as the ideals for common Americans that often consist of being wealthy and having everything to make them happy.
My dreams are very similar to the individuals that were interviewed because it is important to me to have a family and be wealthy. A common theme with the individuals was to have a house, family, and to be well of in terms of money. All these things I also highlighted on, because they are the most important to me.
DeleteMy American Dream compares to some of the people in the video because of opportunity and being able to achieve almost anything you want. It did make me realize that the American Dream also is being able to live a comfortable life and not have to worry about food on the table and a roof over your head. Just being able to be content with the life that you have.
ReplyDeleteWell my dream I would say has quite high standards compared to theirs. As one guy said that the material items are out of the question now. Now all it is would be to survive with no worries in your own world. To be able to support yourself. Mine was along the lines of the higher standards with the material items.
ReplyDeleteThe dreams that were presented usually revolved being able to take care of yourself and your family. I agree with this because it is similar to what I said the American Dream was. Also many people talked about how we have the ability to get what we want if we work hard enough and strive to achieve our goals. This is true because not many other nations can let their people do whatever they want but in America, we have freedom and rights of our own.
ReplyDeleteThe video showed people answering what is the American Dream. Many people said to have a family and a house. They also said to have and obtain the most amount of money possible. This is similar to mine because I said I would want a family and to be happy with them. Many people said the same thing as me and said they would want a family. Also, if they already had a family many people said to ensure that their kids can make it through life with no problems. I agree with this because when you have a child your whole life is to be dedicated to your child.
ReplyDeleteWhen the question "what is the american dream?" is asked, there is a wide variety of answers you are going to get depending on what point you are in your life. We are always striving for more and better, so for someone who already has the house and car, they might be striving for fancier things, or they might be striving for the deeper meaning things because they have the time to worry about that, but when it comes to somebody who does not have food or a house there dreams will probably be just to accomplish that and to get a house. A common thing between all of the dreams is that they all want material first, and then once that is satisfied they go for the more deeper meaning things.
ReplyDeleteMost Americans think that the American Dream is now just being able to hold yourself up, afford food, and afford kids. I think it's more about doing what you love, but a lot of people think it's more about being able to eat. However, under both of those theories is a key word: "being able to." The dream is largely about opportunity, and being able to do something, whatever that something is depends on the person.
ReplyDeleteWhen I think of the American Dream I think of people saying the big houses, cars, and money are important for them to be happy. Really to be happy you need to find a way to be content with what you have. It is good to push yourself and reach for goals but if it becomes your whole life then when you look back you will see that there was no enjoyment along the way. Being happy with where you are should be an important part of the American Dream.
ReplyDeleteBeing able to have a good job that makes you happy is a really big dream for me, and it was also basically everyones in the video as well. I think the American Dream is having everything that you have, because of the hard work you put into having it. Having something handed to me is not my dream, it does not show my hard work. My American Dream is very similar to the people that talked in the video but also different in small ways because dreams vary form person to person, like one girl said in the beginning of the video.
ReplyDeleteBethany, I agree with your idea of the American Dream, having everything you have because of your hard work. I hope you end up pursuing your American Dream, and are extremely successful in the long run.
DeleteA. I believe that through hard work, courage, and determination I can overcome social influences and getting over the "hump" of other people's opinions. I'm most definitely not saying that other people's opinion's aren't right or wrong in any way, I'm just saying that in consideration to me as a person and what I want to do and become. With some hard work, courage, and determination, I think that I can be comfortable. I think it's really important for someone to be comfortable because if they're not, then that obviously means that they are uncomfortable with either who they are, how they're living, thinking, etc.
ReplyDeleteB. The most important to me about who I become in this world is that I hope to end up being satisfied. All little things aside, all details aside, the most important thing to me is being satisfied in every way.
C. The accomplishments I hope to achieve are, in the grand scheme of things, live out a life I can be happy in. An honest, comfortable, and happy life. I would live somewhere quaint, and have a job I really enjoy, so I'd never have to work a day.
D. I will feel secure and happy when all of my previous needs are met, and I have either one person or a group of people I can always go back to.
E. "I will be considered successful by others when/if" I'm not really sure how to answer this question...that seems very contradictory. You yourself can feel extremely successful, but others can look at you and think you need to work harder towards your goals.
F. The hardships I must overcome in order to succeed are so insignificant, but I feel as if for most of us it seems right now to be mountains instead of rock piles.
G. I would say the American Dream is definitely very individualistic, but in the grand scheme of things THE American Dream is almost if not already gone. The American Dream used to be "keep going until you reach the desired effect or product", and now in our modern age, we do keep going, but it's all just unnecessary improvements on what we already have and what's already satisfying to have. We can't really go any further, but again, each person has their own individual American Dream.
